Compare and restore file versions

When an employee changes a file you already have, the earlier versions are kept. You can compare them and go back.

Steps

  1. Open the file in the viewer. A Versions button appears when the file has more than one version.
  2. Pick a version in the list. On a wide screen the list and the comparison sit side by side. On a phone, switch between Before and Current.
  3. Read the comparison. Text shows removed and added lines, with long unchanged stretches folded. Pictures show side by side.
  4. To go back, choose Restore and confirm.

Restoring does not overwrite anything. The old version becomes the newest one. For example, "Version 2 restored. It's now version 4."

If it doesn't work

  • If you do not see Versions, the file has only one version, or version history is not on for your account.
  • If a restore fails, an alert appears and the confirm stays open. Try again.
