Texting from your number
Full texting is coming soon. When it's on, your employees' numbers text like any phone. In the US, phone carriers only deliver texts from business numbers that are registered, so we register you once, in the background. Calls work right away, and texting turns on by itself when the carriers approve, usually within a few days.
Turn it on
When you choose Get a Number, the same screen asks for a few details under Texting. We fill in what we already know.
- Business: the legal business name, the EIN, the business type, the industry, a website, the address and a contact person.
- Just me: for a person without an EIN. Your name, email, your own mobile and your address.
- Calls only: skip it for now. Turn texting on later in Settings › Integrations › Phone numbers, under Texting, with Turn On Texting.
You give the details once. Every number you add later texts under the same registration, as soon as it is approved.
Where it stands
The Texting section on the Phone numbers page says where your registration is, and each number shows its calls and texting.
- Being approved: the carriers are reviewing it. This usually takes a few days. Calls work meanwhile.
- Reply YES to finish (Just me): the carriers text your mobile from +1 915 278 2000. Reply YES within a day. Text Me Again sends it again, up to three times a day.
- Ready: your numbers text.
- Needs attention: the carriers turned it down. The reason is shown, with Fix. Change what it points at, such as the EIN or the website, and choose Send Again.
Just me
Without an EIN, one of your numbers can text, at a lower daily volume. Your mobile must be your own, not a number from a calling or texting app, and the carriers allow it on at most three registrations. To text from more numbers, register as a Business with an EIN.
What it costs
Nothing extra. Registration is included in each number's $5 a month. Texts cost what the Phone numbers page shows.
What we send
Your details go to Twilio and the carriers' registry to register your business. Your EIN is stored encrypted and is shown back only by its last four digits. We describe your texts as an AI assistant texting your own customers and contacts, one to one, with no marketing. People can reply STOP to stop texts and HELP for help.
If texting isn't on yet
- Your employee tells you why it can't text yet: not set up, being approved, waiting for your YES, or needs attention.
- While the phone account is a Twilio trial, your details are saved and registration starts after the upgrade. Until then, texts only reach phones verified in Twilio.
- Details can't be changed while the carriers review them. If they're turned down, use Fix.
